Thank you to my wife and kids. I love you.
If you're reading this, then you know the power of music. It transcends all boundaries and there's a certain magic in that. For just being a collection of sounds, there is something truly beautiful in music--it can make you feel. It also offers an escape from the unrelenting pressures of life and the nonstop madness that is the world around us. You can close your eyes and be transported to a feeling (or place) in just seconds.
Our first song happened almost by accident. Bruce and I each had an acoustic guitar in the Adirondacks in New York and, having never played together before, ended up writing a song. It's been a journey and since AFB's inception, we've written well over 100 songs together. Some never see the light of day, but for me, it's the process of creating that is the journey. What I find extremely cool is that sometimes I'll hear a song that we wrote a while back and think to myself, "how did we write that?" Sometimes it's planned, but oftentimes things just come together. Either way, it's cathartic to write music, to listen, and to get lost in it.
Once we figured out we could write a song, we went to work on figuring out how to record, produce, engineering and publish songs, and have been working on mastering these techniques with each release. We used outside audio engineers for one EP, but decided to just reinvest in ourselves and have been DIY-ing since. It's been a rewarding process and we're happy to be able to share it with those who enjoy listening to our music.
Through our music, we've expressed things that we normally would not share with others. About things that have left a lasting impression on us as individuals and have profoundly shaped who we are and how we see the world. Without music, such things would continue to be bottled up. Like I said, it's cathartic.
Many thanks to those who have listened and those who continue to do so!
